carbonization, manufacture of coke, coal gasification, coal liquefaction.
UNIT-II
Petroleum:
Origin, occurrence and reserves, composition, classification, characteristics, exploration
and production.
Petroleum Refining:
Refinery processes, petroleum products, testing and analysis of petroleum products.
UNIT-III
Non conventional energy sources:
Solar energy, solar radiation, principles of heating and cooling, photo voltaic cells.
Bio gas products, bio-mass, wind energy, hydrogen energy, geothermal and ocean thermal energy,
fuel cells.
UNIT-IV
Energy storage, mechanical energy storage, water storage, solar pond, phase change storage,
chemical storage.
Energy Conservation:
Conservation methods in process industries, Theoretical analysis, practical limitations,
equipment for energy saving / recovery.
