UNIT-I
Distillation: Principles of VLE for binary systems-phase diagrams, relative volatility, azeotropes, enthalpy concentration diagrams, flash vaporization, partial condensation, differential distillation, steam distillation, continuous distillation-McCabe Thiele method-Ponchon Savarit method, Tray efficiencies, Introduction to multi component distillation, azeotropic and extractive distillation.

UNIT-II
Liquid-Liquid Extraction: Introduction, liquid-liquid equilibria, Analytical and graphical solutions for single and multi stage operations, continuous counter-current operations without reflux, fractional extraction, equipment for liquid-liquid contacting operations-single stage, multi stage and continuous contact.

UNIT-III
Leaching: Preparation of solid, steady and unsteady state operation, Shanks system, equipment, methods of calculation for single and multi stage operations.
Crystallization: Crystal Geometry, Equilibrium and yields, nucleation and crystal growth rates, controlled growth of crystals, incorporation of principles into the design of the equipment.

UNIT-IV
Adsorption: Theory of adsorption, industrial adsorbents, adsorption equilibria, Freundlich equation, single and multi stage operations, unsteady state adsorption, equipment for stage and continuous contact.
Ion-Exchange: Principles of Ion-Exchange, techniques and applications, rate of Ion-Exchange.
Introduction to Membrane Separations: Dialysis, thermal diffusion, Mass diffusion.
